Blessing of the Animals

St. Francis of Assisi is one of my faith heroes. His life was beautifully portrayed in the 1972 Franco Zeffirelli film Brother Sun, Sister Moon. St. Francis had a special relationship with creation- the flowers of the fields, the birds of the air and the animals. Each year the feast of St. Francis falls at the beginning of October, and many churches recognize this occasion with a Blessing of the Animals service.
This year we will hold a Blessing of the Animals service on Sunday, October 5, at 4:00 PM in our Pavilion. I encourage you to bring your dogs and cats- no slithering reptiles please! for a service of blessing. Stuffed animals are welcome as are photos of our dearly departed. Please use crates and/or leashes.
