Baptist Women in Ministry 2026

Posted by Scott Hovey on February 26, 2026

Northside Drive has never been afraid to stand firm in what we believe is right. When many Baptist churches around us began to narrow their views concerning the ordination of women, Northside Drive was unwavering. We ordained Ruby Brown as a deacon in November of 1972 and then later ordained Jean Myers, a Southern Seminary student, to Gospel ministry. Many ordinations have followed.

We have long been strong advocates of gender equality and God’s call to both men and women to ministry. We, therefore, support the organization Baptist Women in Ministry. BWIM encourages member churches to intentionally invite a woman to preach during the month of March. This Sunday, March 1, is our Baptist Women in Ministry Sunday. Our preacher will be our own Melissa Lester. Melissa, a lifelong member of our church, is currently a student at McAfee School of Theology. She is no stranger to our pulpit as she continues to exercise her calling to ministry.

Join us this Sunday as we reaffirm our belief that God indeed calls women to preach, teach, and lead in church and in all places!
