Creating Communities of Conviction

I am honored to be able to share my Doctor of Ministry thesis this Sunday in worship. Don’t worry, I won’t read all 10,000 words! I have a sermon version that is average-sermon length. As I shared during the program, this work is for us. As you will hear on Sunday, the subject of my thesis is Northside Drive Baptist Church. I celebrate the good work of the church even as I explore blind spots for progressive Baptist churches. The title of my thesis is, “Creating Communities of Conviction.”
This Sunday is Trinity Sunday in the Christian calendar. While not explicitly trinitarian, my work is grounded in the belief that the inner life of God is the model for our lives together. In other words, the Trinity shows the perfect interplay between unity and diversity, community and individuality. Such is the challenge for us- finding the right balance between the ‘I’ and the ‘we.’
The Doctor of Ministry journey was wonderful. It was a gift to me and, thus, my gift to us. As I will share on Sunday, the Doctor of Ministry is a church degree (as opposed to a PhD) and is rooted in my deep commitment to the local church, specifically this church.
I will have several bound copies of my full-length thesis for those interested.
This Sunday begins our summer worship in the Chapel. It is the final Sunday in the Choir year and concludes with a meal together. Join us for worship this Sunday!
