Here Comes Summer!

Posted by Scott Hovey on May 07, 2026

As is our tradition, we will move worship to the Chapel this summer. We will enjoy the renovated space each and every Sunday. Our first Sunday in the Chapel will be May 31. That will be the first Sunday after Memorial Day. It will be the final Sunday of the choir year and our official kick off for summer. The Hospitality Committee will host a lunch in the Pavilion following worship.

During worship on May 31, I will be sharing my DMin thesis in the form of a sermon. It is my joy to share with the church my work from the past three years. As you will hear, it is entirely focused on our church- the rich history of inclusivity as well as the challenges of being a moderate/progressive Baptist church today.
Summer worship in the Chapel is always special. Our worship, while still liturgical, is more intimate and more engaging. We are closer together and our voices sound amazing! Each week we will feature special music that will highlight the talent and expression of our congregation.

Moving backwards, Sunday, May 24 is Pentecost Sunday, an important event in the church calendar. On Pentecost Sunday we will hear the story of the Holy Spirit descending on the believers in Jerusalem and we will think about the continued work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our world.

Moving one more Sunday back, I will be away on May 17. We are traveling to Washington DC for Ryon’s college graduation. The Rev. Dr. Karen Massey will be preaching on that Sunday.
