Treasures Old and New

Among the many parables in the Gospel of Matthew is this one: The Kingdom of Heaven is like a good householder who brings out of storage treasures old and
new (Matthew 13:52).
We know that the Kingdom of Heaven means more than just heaven in the popular sense- it is life lived God’s way. And treasures old and new is a way to help us tie together the past and the future. We are sure of God’s work in the past because we have seen it; we are confident of
God’s work in the future because we believe it.
Northside Drive Baptist Church is currently in its 75th year.
This jubilee year is an opportunity to bring out of storage treasures old and new.
Our celebration will culminate with our Anniversary Sunday on September 26, 2027! Mark your calendars!
But our work starts now!
This Sunday we will engage ‘treasures old and new’ as our theme for our 75th anniversary. My sermon will help begin our thinking. Our hymns will inspire our visioning work. We will sing my favorite hymn, Called as Partners in Christ’s Service, a beautiful call to “ministries of grace.”
We have some beautiful worship ahead of us as we wrap up 2026: Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas. Once we turn the calendars to 2027, our anniversary celebration will begin in earnest. We are currently working toward ways to make this celebration special.
Let us discover ways to hold old and new together, not allowing one to overshadow the other, but allowing them to work in tandem to bring this present moment to fullness among us.
See you Sunday!
