New Church Year Begins!

It may still feel like summertime but fall begins in August around here. Our kids are heading back to school and the new church year begins on August 1. Our committees and teams begin their work for another year of ministry.
As we enter this new year of church ministry we are greeted by the sound of construction. The work to transition the Chapel to multi-use space began several weeks ago. The pews are gone, and the hardwood floor is in place. We’ve still got a little way to go. But the sound of construction is the sound of hope, the sound of new things coming into fruition. The prophet Isaiah spoke to the people of Israel during a particularly difficult time: “God is doing a new thing. Do you perceive it? Listen. Can you hear it?”
Last spring I shared some thoughts about the future of our church- the “church of tomorrow.” It is worth revisiting those thoughts as we begin a new church year. Our work this year will center around four critical poles: worship, communication, events and justice. This year we will look to move each of these forward just a bit more.
