Summer is Upon Us!

The days are longer, warmer, and wetter. And we are all on the go!
Our mission team leaves for Taliaferro County on Sunday. This annual trip is an opportunity to
provide a healthy, happy, and active program for the children of one of Georgia’s poorest
counties. The team will be offering Bible stories, games, crafts, and recreation for children
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Our team this year includes Barbara Atchley, Susan Harlan, Cindy Bell, Nancy Hall, Amelia
Almeida-Hall, Hal and Jo Meeks, Myrtie Cope, Letty Konenkamp, Kay Braswell, Beth Laxton,
Heather and Scott Hovey, and longtime Taliaferro partners Doug and Angela Ivy. Pray for a
wonderful week in Taliaferro!
Eleanor and I will be attending the CBF General Assembly in St. Louis from June 24-27. It will
be a great time to reconnect with friends and colleagues. This will be the first time CBF will be
in St. Louis. With rare exceptions, CBF has rotated between Dallas; Atlanta; and Greensboro,
North Carolina. St. Louis represents a movement west and a growing national presence of
CBF. While there I will connect with CBF Georgia, Association of Welcoming and Affirming
Baptists (AWAB), Baptist Women in Ministry, Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty
and of course, my alma mater, the Duke Divinity Baptist House of Studies! I look forward to
sharing about our time with the church.
Then Eleanor and I will continue onto California where we will spend a week with my parents.
We will see Marco in Los Angeles and enjoy a sunny SoCal summer.
We will be away for Sunday, June 29. Melissa Lester will preach for us on that Sunday.
We will be back for Sunday, July 6. Worship will be held in the Sanctuary on that Sunday as
construction begins in the Chapel.
