Touching Taliaferro with Love

Posted by Nancy Hall on June 27, 2024

In early June more than a dozen Northside Drive members once again traveled to Crawfordville to lead a day camp for children and youth at the Taliaferro County K-12 school, the only school in the county, with fewer than 200 students. For almost 20 years, NDBC members have been partnering with school staff, other churches, and parents to provide a fun and educational summer experience for the children of the community.

I had never been one of the volunteers, but my granddaughter Amelia decided on Sunday that she wanted to be a volunteer again this year so we headed to Crawfordville early Monday morning. It was a joy to experience the camp first-hand.

The children (organized in groups by age) were excited to be part of all the activities, which included sing-a-longs with Hal Meeks, playing board games led by Susan Dew, and sports activities with Letty and Hartwell. The story time featured the highly-acclaimed NDBC "theater troupe" who acted out the parables of the Prodigal Son, the Lost Coin, and the Lost Sheep.

A huge thanks to everyone who volunteered to plan, dress up, sing, play games, cheer on, give hugs, host NDBCers at their homes, and prepare delicious dinners. Your acts of kindness and compassion show God’s love for the campers and for each other.
