Worship in the Chapel

There is something special about our Chapel! You witnessed it if you were in worship on Sunday. Our voices soared, our children led us, and we gathered at the table of Holy Communion. It was a glorious service of worship! That isn’t to take away from the Sanctuary in any way. Our Sanctuary is magnificent. But the Chapel is special. The month of June will be wonderful in the Chapel. On June 22, we will have a service to celebrate the Chapel, to tell some stories and to anticipate the new opportunities.
Even though this will be a short summer in the Chapel, as we make way for construction to begin in July, we are laying the foundation for much more time in the Chapel. As a multi-use space, it will continue to serve as a worship space. It will also be our gathering space for meals, events, speakers, celebrations, receptions and meetings. Get ready to spend more time in this wonderful space!
This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost is a threshold in the church calendar. It marks the transition from Eastertide to Ordinary Time. A flash of red between white and green. It gathers up the glorious alleluias from Easter, wraps them in the Holy Spirit, and sends us out into the ‘ordinary’ places of the world. Pentecost is a high moment for the church; indeed, it is the birth of the church. It is a chance to remember our roots, to hear our story again and to feel the fiery power of the Spirit sending us “to Jerusalem, all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” May it be so for us!
